Celebrating the 12-year partnership developed between Tianlin No. 3 Middle and Lasswade High
13 Scottish teachers and students from Lasswade High School visited Tianlin No. 3 Middle School, their long-term partner school, in this beautiful autumn season. The whole visit lasted for 5 days, from October 15 to October 19, 2016. The Scottish students were paired with their Chinese buddies to achieve an immersive experience of Chinese school life and home-stay. These two schools have been linked together since the year of 2004 and gradually have developed an in-depth partnership based on cross-curricular projects.
As a member school of the ‘Dream+Teams’ international programme, the two student clubs of Tianlin No.3 Middle School started to work on a drama project this summer. The student leaders read ‘Nanke Dream’, the classic script written by Tang Xianzu, the famous Chinese opera writer in Ming Dynasty and then adapted it for a stage play, which tells an instructive story traversing through the ancient and modern. They carefully made their own props, completed subtitle translation and rehearsed in costumes, with the support of their teachers. On October 18, 2016 the Scottish visitors and Mr. Mark Bailie, a UK headteacher, were invited to watch the performance and were deeply impressed by the performers’ creativity and passion.
Ms. Du Hongmei, the headteacher of Tianlin No. 3 Middle School, hopes to work even more closely with the Scottish link school for professional discussions and exchanges, so that more learning opportunities would be created for the benefits of their students, namely, for the future confident learners and responsible team workers.
