1. Explain the situation to the students: Rita has been kidnapped, but now she is phoning the police. She can’t see where she is, but the police officer urges her to use her senses of sight, hearing and smell to give some clues.

1) Students look through the picture and the notes first, then guess what the girl will do.

2) Students listen to the tape twice and complete the notes.(individual work)

3) Students use the notes to work out which building Rita is probably in on the map.(Group work)

4) Students have a discussion and then try to explain the reasons why the other buildings were wrong. (Group work)
